The Connection T-Shirt & Sticker Design

August 06, 2013 by Derek Heidemann

There's a band up in my neck of the woods called The Connection and they're and old school, stripped down rock and roll band. Recently they posted on Facebook that they're looking for a designer to help them out with a t-shirt design for their upcoming European tour, so naturally I jumped at the chance to help them out.

We worked through a few different ideas. They have a really raw, edgy vibe so it was all about bold typefaces and a no-frills approach. Their new album is called "Let It Rock!" and they wanted that on the shirt as well. They've used an arrow motif in the past so I decided to stick with that. They also used to use a guitar headstock design but ultimately decided it was a little too 60's for their taste

So I dropped the headstock shape and when I released and deleted the clipping mask on the shape, I was left with this really cool arrow pattern. I really was hoping they would go with that one, but they decided it was too busy.

Then we thinned it out even more! We eventually landed on this pretty plain, but in your face design that used the arrow in a cool way. I angled the text to help with that raw/edgy vibe they have and we ended up with the final product!

Check out the little gallery below for the progression of ideas!

So throughout this whole project I had sort of wished I had more time and I could take it in some other directions. I'm seriously not done with that arrow pattern idea... but if you think about it, this is totally  their style and I still can't really believe they're into it!

Maybe some European super-fans will be wearing my design soon! How cool is that?!
