I've recently been watching some episodes of SNL on Netflix and in the more recent seasons I've noticed this really interesting style of photography. The photographer is Mary Ellen Matthews.
Her photos are, dare I say, "photo-realistic". That sounds really dumb, because they are...photos, but check them out. I think you'll get what I mean. I also think she's heavily inspired by Andy Warhol. Some of these shots, which I can only assume are digital, have a misaligned color print look, or even screen print quality. The treatment of color and overly sharp details is such a cool approach.
Basically, all I'm saying is that I think these are pretty kick ass photos. They definitely deserve more credit than they're getting between SNL skits.
